SISTERLOVE, INC. stands in solidarity with the trans community

On Sunday we learned that the Department of Health and Human Services is advocating to change the legal definition of sex under Title IX so that it would be based on, “immutable biological traits identifiable by or before birth.”

We are saddened by this latest attempt by the Trump administration to deny over 1.4 million transgender individuals equal protection under the law. Title IX prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in federally funded education programs and activities. Limiting the definition of sex – contrary to recent federal case law, scientific and medical consensus, and civil and human rights leaders – in this way would hinder the ability of transgender, gender non-conforming, and agender individuals to access to services and facilities consistent with their gender identity.

All people deserve to be treated with dignity and we condemn the hatred and bigotry motivating this change. We stand in solidarity with our trans family and will follow their leadership and direction as allies working to achieve justice and equality for all.
