SisterLove Inc., Participates in Center for AIDS Research Regional Workshop

(Atlanta, Ga.) Today, the Tennessee Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) is hosting an Inter-CFAR workshop entitled Partnerships between HBCUs and CFARs – Addressing the Underrepresentation of African American Investigators in HIV/AIDS. Atlanta-based SisterLove Inc. will be represented by its Policy & Advocacy Program Manager, Sequoia Ayala, Esq., M.A.

The workshop is intended to foster synergistic partnerships between Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and CFARs concentrating on understanding and addressing the underrepresentation of African American Investigators in HIV/AIDS. One of the anticipated outcomes is to identify the highest actionable priorities for partnerships between HBCUs and non-HBCU academic institutions at CFARs, to address the underrepresentation and to create working groups that collaborate to address the identified priorities after the workshop.

“The discussion regarding the importance of African American investigators in research studies and clinical trials is both timely and pertinent to where we are in the fight towards an HIV/AIDS free generation. The disparate impact of the HIV epidemic on communities of color requires the inclusion of amplification of diverse perspectives and backgrounds to ensure equity and promise of research outcome.” said Ayala.

The Workshop will be held at The Cal Turner Family Center at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. Attendees will include representatives from CFARs, HBCUs, governmental organizations, and various communities. SisterLove, Inc. joins a team of esteemed researchers from Morehouse School of Medicine and Emory School of Medicine.
