WomenNOW!: UNFPA Report on Reproductive Health and Justice Released

On Wednesday April 14th, The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) released their flagship 2021 State of World Population Report . This report collated and analyzed data on the specific nature of challenges posed to marginalized peoples around the world. For the first time, the UNFPA specifically reported on female bodily autonomy in Africa. Here are some of their key findings:

• Only 55 % of women are fully empowered to make choices over health care, contraception and the ability to say yes or no to sex.
  

• Only 71 % of countries guarantee access to overall maternity care.
  

• Only 75 % of countries legally ensure full, equal access to contraception.
  

• Only about 80 % of countries have laws supporting sexual health and well-being.
  

• Only about 56 % of countries have laws and policies supporting comprehensive sexuality education.

Our project, the WomenNOW! Reproductive Health and Justice Continuum will address these challenges and explore solutions at our next Virtual Summit, hosted on April 23rd at 10a EST on Facebook Live and Zoom.
